Toyota Tacoma Gets a New Rival – 2009 Mahindra Appalachian
Toyota Tacoma gets a new rival in the form of Mahindra Appalachian pickup. The 2009 Mahindra pickup trucks from the Indian automaker Mahindra & Mahindra is going to compete with the best sellers in America the 2009 Toyota Tacoma. M&M knows it is hard to beat the big threes in the American truck market – the Toyota Tacoma, Ford Ranger and Chevrolet Colorado. But Mahindra brings something unique to benefit from the loopholes in the compact truck segment.
The all new Mahindra Appalachian is going to be a gasoline-electric hybrid using a 2.2L 4-cylinder diesel engine delivering up to 35mpg – much higher than the standard 2009 Toyota Tacoma delivering 26mpg for the highway. Now, Mahindra only needs to make sure the Appalachian meets the US emission and safety standards convincingly to compete with the Tacoma.
