Getting and Staying Out of Debt Permanently

Years ago I found out that getting and staying out of debt permanently is all in the head, not the pocketbook.  Many people of modest means have large bank accounts while richer people are deeply in debt.  I did learn this the hard way - by going bankrupt.  Fifteen years after filing for bankruptcy I was faced with a job loss and a series of devastating expenses, but there was no way I was going to jeopardize my future.  I got some counseling and debt advice from a local debt management firm.  They also offered me a debt consolidation loan so I could make affordable payments each months, since I’d found a new job, but a a much lower salary.  I dug out of debt and stayed that way, because I’d learned how to think debt-free.
