Other sensations are a burning or tingling along the leg, weakness, numbness or difficulty using the leg or foot or a shooting pain that makes it hard to stand up. Though sciatica can be very painful and uncomfortable, it is rare that long lasting nerve harm (tissue damage) results. Most injury is because of inflammation and will reduce within a period of time. Nerve discomfort is caused by a combination of pressure and inflammation on the nerve root, and treatment is focused on allieviating both of these issues.
