My Father Liked Model Trains But His Layout Was Sparsely Populated

Some hobbies are rather temporary, even transitory, and they last until you decide you would rather do something else. Those of us who are into model trains see hobbies as a more permanent feature of our lives and expect to always have an enthusiasm that is less common in other pastimes.

I first had contact with model trains when I was a boy. My father was not an avid collector but he enjoyed playing with his model railway set. He had a layout that was pretty sparsely landscaped and was not much more than a circle of track but he got a lot of pleasure from it.

Having been brought up on the simple pleasure of a circle of railway track my own railroad layout is far more comprehensive but whether I have any more fun is open to argument.
